Illinois Growth Task Force Issues Recommendations

On February 4, the Illinois Growth Task Force, a bipartisan legislative group studying growth and development in the state for the past two years, released its final report. Task Force recommendations include support for open space and agricultural land preservation, coordination of state capital spending and programs with local and regional plans, and compilation of a full inventory of zoning and building codes. The report also recommends state capital spending and programs consistent with principles of balanced growth, including reducing traffic congestion, preserving open space, promoting reinvestment and redevelopment, increasing the quality of life and supporting local government partnerships.

Specific recommendations are posted on the Campaign for Sensible Growth Web site.
